With its distinctive package it does stand out, but just how good is it compared to the array of competition?

Here is the company behind Assault Pre Workout. They are one of the big boys in the supplement world.
They have a decent reputation and have been around for quite some time so they must be doing something right.
Their supplements are tailored towards gym enthusiasts and serious athletes alike. You’ve probably seen their logo sponsoring sporting events such as the UFC in previous years.

It’s easy to use, just one scoop anything between 20-30 minutes pre workout should do it.
It comes in different flavors including watermelon, fruit punch, green apple, strawberry ice and blue raspberry with approximately 30 servings.
Putting in a second scoop is not advisable. The caffeine in this is high enough as it is, stick to the guidelines and you will be fine.
Here is a rundown of what makes this pre workout so popular:
An ever present ingredient in pre workouts and for good reason. It increases your water retention giving you more of those bursts of power. It is great for those quick energy surges you need for a more intense workout.
Good for when you are working to your maximum as it gives you that extra push to get through the heavier weights.
On top of this creatine is great for recovery of the muscles and also stores itself in your body for when you need it.
Studies have shown creatine to increase your strength in some specific parts of working out. These include more leg power during a cycle, more agility, more sprinting prowess, improvements in strength during squats and bench press.
There is a lot of different reviews regarding this: some like it, some aren’t so sure. It has been shown to pump up some of the useful acids in your body. This increases the intensity you can perform at.
However, there are some concerns over having too much because of the side effects such as paresthesia. We’ll talk about this some more in the side effects section a little later.
On the plus side it has been shown to increase muscle strength. Growth and endurance just a few of the reasons for its inclusion in many pre workouts.

There have been various studies since its increase in popularity. With some pointing to its use as a mechanism for increasing focus as well as strength. It helps the levels of taurine in your muscles along the way.

To sum them up it’s not a bad list of ingredients for a pre workout supplement. A lot of them have dual purposes in that they are good for your strength and energy levels. This is why so many people use them as they are obviously getting results.
The apprehension we have with this supplement is the high caffeine content. It is such a high dose to take if you are not already consuming much caffeine. Try to start with less than a whole scoop, maybe a half for the first few days and monitor how it makes you feel.
There is 250mg of caffeine in a whole scoop which can be quite a shock to the system – obviously you want that kick in your energy levels but make sure you get there sensibly.

Trying a new supplement or powder is like changing your pets food brand. You need to monitor the results before you decide if it’s a good idea long term.
The two ingredients to be wary of in MusclePharm Assault Pre Workout are the Caffeine content and Beta Alanine.
Some side effects of Beta Alanine including a numbing, itching or a tingling sensation. This has only been reported in high doses so a more moderate intake might not have any effect.
There is nothing to be worried about if this does occur it is only temporary but it can be distracting in the gym – especially when one of the benefits of this pre workout is supposed to be the increased focus.

Like with any pre workout on the market today (with a few exceptions) there is a lot of caffeine in this. So it goes without saying that there should be a few words of caution like we have gone through.
This isn’t to say that it is still a very good pre workout for you, we have just seen better. The creatine alone is a good amount for most people and that is one of the major reasons for taking a pre workout.
The ingredients included are on the most part good as well as effective. Although it is not to most inventive or biggest list of ingredients we have seen.
It is a decent product to try for sure and there could be side effects with a lot of pre workouts if you are susceptible to the effects of too much caffeine.
This being said there are better products on the market. Maybe that is why this has such high levels of caffeine, but still it is worth a try if it is in your price range and you are looking for a product that is used by many so you can share opinions with other people.
Even if you have high tolerance levels to caffeine, we would advise against taking a second scoop and stick to a maximum of one a day.
The dosage of one scoop is the equivalent to around 3 cups of coffee in one hit so it is no wonder it gets the heart racing. Start steady and build your tolerance for sure, but don’t forget to always listen to your body.
