Legion Athletics Phoenix Fat Burner Review

When it comes to supplements, nothing tends to surprise us. But will our Legion Athletics Phoenix Fat Burner Review show us something different?

We’re on a bad run of unveiling too many ineffective fat burners so we are hoping for a change of direction with this one.

In order to impress, and make it onto our top recommended fat burners list, it really needs to do the following well:

  • Burn fat effectively
  • Be safe
  • Suppress appetite
  • Increase energy

The best way of achieving this is by using effective ingredients at optimal dosages. It’s a simple formula but you will be shocked at how many companies fail in this area.

Let’s start by getting to know them a little better first.

Legion Athletics Phoenix Fat Burner Review: Who Makes This Product?

Legion AthleticsLegion Athletics Phoenix Fat Burner

This US-based supplements company have stripped things back a little.

We like this and they make their products in FDA inspected facilities and even have a 100% money back guarantee. Something that we always like to see.

There is also free worldwide shipping on their products.

Legion Athletics use natural ingredients and seem to be against the money grabbing type of supplements companies. This is something we can all get behind. They actually have their products tested independently which is always good.

The man behind the brand is Mike Matthews who is a health and fitness author. The site says he wasted 1000’s of his own dollars on sub-par supplements, then wanted to reverse this.

With a wide range of supplements that include pre-workouts, joint support, and fish oil, there is a lot to choose from.

Time to see if their fat burner is worth choosing.

Now we can really get to know this product and see if it is any good.

The early signs are good, there are no proprietary blends meaning we get to see all the dosages.

Their suggested serving is 3 capsules with your first meal, then 2 with a later meal. They also advise that you can combine with Caffeine to maximize benefits but do not include it in this product.

This isn’t the best approach as we prefer a fat burner that can be taken 3-4 times a day to spread out the benefits but still, let’s see what they have in store.

Advantra Z (6% Synephrine)

As far as first impressions go, Legion Athletics haven’t made a good one here.

Stimulants are fine if they are effective and more importantly, safe!

There is a reason that Synephrine is a banned substance in many sporting organizations, it can cause side effects. These are more likely to occur when consumed alongside Caffeine. This product does not contain Caffeine but they do advise taking it with it.

WebMD actually comment that it can be unsafe when taking as a weight loss supplement. They also advise that the potential side effects include burning, dizziness, stinging, blurred vision, drowsiness and more.

It has many names including the more common ‘Bitter Orange’ and for us, it is an ingredient we like to avoid. At least it isn’t in a proprietary blend.

Remember that if you are the subject of testing through your sporting organization then you should consult them before you think of consuming Synephrine.

You can never make a first impression twice but Legion Athletics may wish that they could. The dosage of 834 mg is also on the large side for us so act with caution.

According to PubChem, Naringin is the major flavonoid glycoside in grapefruit and gives grapefruit juice its bitter taste.

Examine.com does comment that Grapefruit does appear to reduce fat mass in groups that consumed it, compared to a Placebo group.

The effects though are thought to be minor though.

It is believed that it can help to boost metabolism which is always welcome in a fat burner and the polyphenols will be particularly of benefit for this.

Naringin is thought to boost the digestive system which in turn helps with weight loss. It is always better to stick to ingredients that have strong backing for being more effective. The mild effects aren’t exactly what you want to see really.

At 600 mg they are giving you a generous amount but one that perhaps could be better spent on another ingredient.

Green Tea Extract

A great fat burner that you will find in many of our top recommended fat burners.

It has been proven to work in a few ways that are beneficial for this type of supplement. Firstly, it is a thermogenic. This means it will heat the body up on the inside, causing it to burn fat to cool itself down.

The catechins are also really useful. They serve the body as antioxidants which help to fight disease.

Examine.com do say that they are anti-obesity and anti-diabetic which makes this ingredient even more impressive.

On top of this, it will also enhance endurance levels, great news for your workout!

WebMD adds that it is a milder stimulant than Caffeine Anhydrous and contains just 2-4% Caffeine. This is will still give your alertness and thinking a boost though.

The 400 mg included represents a very useful dosage that will do great things.

Not the worst ingredient and one that is believed to communicate with the brain to tell it the body is full.

You will find this sort of ingredient in nootropic supplements due to the fact that it acts as a precursor to Serotonin. This is why it is thought to improve mood.

Serotonin itself is actually a useful ingredient on its own and one that has been found to reduce appetite and is often linked to carb cravings.

Taking too much Serotonin does come with a warning though. It is linked to heart-related risks in higher quantities so keep an eye on your intake.

Examine.com do comment though that any weight reduction from using this ingredient does appear to be almost secondary to a reduction in food intake, and is not too remarkable in magnitude.

The 150 mg included is thought to be half of what you need for much of an effect but it doesn’t appear to be a potent ingredient for fat burning anyway.

Another ingredient that is more beneficial in a nootropic supplement.

An amino acid, it can help the body to deal with the effects of stress. This means it would usually be good for helping the body to deal with the effects of stimulants that it is consumed alongside. This means you will get to be more focused from using such an ingredient.

Examine.com does say that you should be careful if you have a hyperactive thyroid when consuming L-Tyrosine. This is because it can raise thyroid production as it is a precursor for its synthesis.

Salicin (White Willow Bark Extract)

Not the best ingredient. It is thought to work in the same way as the likes of Black Pepper Extract.

That is a more common ingredient in a fat burner as it enhances the capabilities of other ingredients.

White Willow Bark Extract also works in a similar way to Aspirin. This is because it alleviates pain but this isn’t what we are after from this supplement.

The 120 mg could be better spent on other ingredients.

Described as a plant chemical that is classed as a bioflavonoid (WebMD) it is derived from citrus fruits.

There are various links between these fruits and fat loss and as you can see in this product already, it contains ingredients commonly derived from these sources.

The same WebMD page does comment that it is possibly ineffective for weight loss. They say that some research shows that taking glucosyl hesperidin for 12 weeks does not reduce body weight in people that are modestly overweight.

The evidence is stacked against it and the 100 mg included is another example of space that has been wasted.

A traditional ingredient that is a member of the mint family.

How effective is it in terms of fat burning though? It is potentially useful but since there aren’t an abundance of studies that back its use it is hard to really back it. There are some that believe it can help to break down fat cells and even prevent them from forming.

Also, it might be an appetite suppressant but this is even disputed. Like we mentioned earlier there isn’t a lot of reliable evidence to support it and when taken by mouth, is thought to be ineffective.

Hordenine HCL

Another ingredient that doesn’t directly burn fat.

This isn’t always a bad thing as it could help to enhance the benefits of other ingredients.

Again though, we have an ingredient that is here to do the same job and it only works if the other ingredients are effective fat burners.

Usually, this means more appetite suppressants, metabolism boosters, thermogenic and beyond but here we only have a few effective ingredients.

Unfortunately, for this supplement, there aren’t enough good ones for this to be an exciting inclusion.

Legion Athletics Phoenix Fat Burner Side Effects

This is where we like to say that there is nothing to be concerned about.

The problem is that a lot of people see natural ingredients and think it must be safe to consume. We would argue that too much of anything natural isn’t good for the body so don’t take a supplements brands’ word for it.

Here the inclusion of Synephrine or Bitter Orange is the worrying part.

With potential side effects such as dizziness, burning, stinging, blurred vision, drowsiness and more it is certainly an ingredient to avoid.

Unfortunately, it isn’t uncommon to find it in a fat burner these days so make sure you are always doing your research.

Legion Athletics Phoenix Fat Burner Review Conclusion

Whilst this isn’t the worst product in terms of the better ingredients it has, the fact that it started with Synephrine was always going to work against it.

Even from such an early point in the ingredients, it really needed a hail mary for it to have any chance of being recommended.

In reality, we wouldn’t advise that anyone buys a product that uses Synephrine, after all, we want you to be a clean lean machine. Safety is a big part of that.

In truth, we have seen worse fat burners but that isn’t what we are comparing it to. Legion Athletics Phoenix Fat Burner is being compared to the best in the business and such high standards mean it falls well short of what we are looking for.

The best fat burners we have seen use a long list of proven fat burner ingredients, at optimal dosages. Also, they never compromise on safety.

The best way to ensure you get the fat burning results you are after it to use a supplement that ticks all the boxes. Certainly, don’t use one that starts with Synephrine.
