They have a motto which is Better is Never Enough. It’s good to see they are into improvement, the better companies usually are.

Cellucor offers a 30-day money back guarantee with some of their products which we like to see.

Cellucor is a brand under the Nutrabolt company which is based in Texas. There is free shipping and even a discount when you buy in bulk.

This product comes with some usage directions that include the fact that it could cause a ’harmless tingling sensation, which is attributed to Beta-alanine’ – but more on that later!

They do have sponsored athletes but they are the likes of Crossfit athletes and personal trainers. Even though these aren’t familiar to a lot of people, we like that they are getting behind these people.

Cellucor products include fat burners and creatine related post workout supplements. They even sell a range of apparel.

They’ve been around for some time and are one of the bigger brands in the industry. Cellucor say it is their mission to support personal journeys so let’s see if you can take C4 Ultimate Pre Workout on the go or not.

This is where we really get to see if this is a product worth buying or not.

One look at the label and they do a lot right. But then, we see that half the ingredients are contained in a proprietary blend. This means we only get the dosage of all the ingredients combined and not individual amounts.

This makes it difficult to see if an ingredient can be effective or not. Still, there is a lot to go on and a variety of C4 Ultimate Pre Workout flavors that contain the same ingredients.

Citrulline Malate

Certainly an ingredient you will find in our top recommended pre-workouts.

This is because it has been proven to work and it is great for increasing blood flow. This is what you need to get the big gains we’re all after.

By increasing your nitric oxide levels it means the big pumps are no longer a thing of the past.

Citrulline is derived from watermelons and actually converts to Arginine in the body. For creatine synthesis, this is good news – Cellucor C4 Ultimate also gives you creatine so this is a good boost.

The 6 g included is a big and effective amount.

Beta-Alanine

We mentioned this ingredient earlier and for us, it’s not one we like to see really.

To start with, WebMD advise that Beta-Alanine is a nonessential amino acid that is produced by the body. The potential side effects may be mild but are still annoying.

By their own admission, this ingredient can cause paresthesia, this will put a lot of people off. Paresthesia is basically a tingling sensation of the skin. Yes, it passes before long but it is still something that can be too distracting for some people.

The benefits aren’t exactly backed by a lot of people either.

Beta-Alanine is mostly linked to fighting fatigue but as we alluded to, there aren’t a lot of studies to back this. Also linked to Carnosine production, it would be good if this is the case because it can help your muscles to stay at peak levels for longer periods.

At 3.2 g, there is more than enough to cause paresthesia. Anything over 800 mg is often considered to be able to do this. It passes within a couple of hours but could be worth keeping an eye out for.

Creatine Nitrate

A very useful ingredient.

Examine.com says that Creatine is often used by athletes to increase power output and lean mass.

The facts don’t lie and Creatine has the backing of numerous studies. It is widely believed to be a safe and useful ingredient for a pre-workout.

Creatine has benefits that you need in a pre-workout – the muscles and physical performance. It gives you more strength and helps to ensure that you have energy post training.

It is used for its recovery enhancing capabilities and can get to work on this even before you start training.

There are studies to support this and they show how Creatine can benefit the body at any time. One study showed that Supplementing Creatine during arm flexor strength training was found to lead to greater increases in arm flexor muscle strength, upper arm muscle area, and fat-free mass than strength training alone.

The dosage of 1.5 g is another good one.

Betaine Anhydrous

It is derived from beets and is something you will find naturally in the body. Betaine increases protein synthesis which is why it has strong links to strength and muscle growth.

It has even been linked to producing more creatine. We already have this and another that helps produce Creatine but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

There are other ingredients that are more effective but the 1.5 g should be of use here.

Nitrosigine Arginine

This is the patented version that is believed to be a useful nitric oxide booster.

Good news for blood flow to the muscles and for the big muscle pumps and gains. It also removes toxins from your body that starts to gather during intense workouts which makes it even more useful.

At 1.5 g it is another generous amount.

Taurine

A common misconception about Taurine is that it is a stimulant.

This isn’t the case, it is just included in energy drinks. The reason for this is that it is actually used to counter the effects of the stimulants and helps the body to remain calm, whilst allowing their positive traits to be felt.

It can increase blood flow and even works as an antioxidant. It might even work against the side effects of Beta-Alanine.

Found in nootropics because of the calming benefits it just doesn’t have a lot of backing from human trials.

Yes, animal studies have shown promise but that isn’t what we look for.

The dosage of 1 g is a decent one though.

Now for the ingredients in the proprietary blend. They call this their energy and focus blend and it totals 858 mg for all ingredients combined.

N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine

A good ingredient to include, but mostly because of stimulants.

It helps the user to stay calm during stressful situations and can even boost focus.

We don’t know how much there is. Even though it is an effective ingredient, we can’t be sure to what extent!

This is going to be the same issue for the rest of the ingredients.

Caffeine Anhydrous

A very common ingredient in almost any supplement.

This is because it is a reliable source of energy as well as a versatile ingredient. It can help you to focus and keeps you alert. Found in both nootropics and fat burners it has something to offer almost every type of supplement.

The anhydrous version means it is a powdered form. This is easily absorbed by the body and gets to work fast.

They do tell us that there is 300 mg per serving. This is a little on the high side in one go so look out for headaches, jitters, insomnia and more.

Atleast they gave us the dosage.

Velvet Bean

An ingredient more commonly found in testosterone boosters it is sometimes known as Mucuna Pruriens.

It is believed to be able to raise T levels up to a normal level, but not beyond that. It stimulates the luteinizing hormone which helps to create and release more testosterone but you need quite a bit of it for it to have any effect.

These benefits aren’t exactly what we are looking for anyway.

Theacrine

A stimulant like ingredient that works in a similar way to Caffeine.

It will help give you an energy boost but the level of Caffeine is already quite high. There are links to stress-reducing but this is based on potential right now.

Without the dosage, you don’t know if you are really getting enough – or even too much!

Alpha GPC

An ingredient you are more likely to see in a nootropic.

This would already make you think it is here for added focus. It is believed to be good for helping you to make a split decision and stave off cognitive decline.

Some use it to aid their studies for these reasons but the fact that you often need around 300 mg for the benefits to really be felt makes us feel like we probably aren’t getting enough.

Zembrin

This is a branded form of Kanna.

Examine.com advises that it is a herb traditionally chewed before stressful endeavors.

They also say that it may play a role in reducing state anxiety although further evidence is required.

An understudied ingredient right now.

Rauwolfia Vomitoria Root

Another ingredient that you don’t often see in pre-workouts.

You may have forgotten that it is a pre-workout that we are looking at! It is believed to be able to stop the body from storing as much fat but there isn’t an awful lot of backing for this.

Since it is similar in structure to Yohimbine which has some serious side effects, there might be cause for concern.

Examine.com says it might be more potent than Yohimbine but limited evidence exists.

WebMD advise that Canada has actually banned supplements containing Rauwolfia Vomitoria because it contains high levels of chemicals that are prescription drugs.

Not an ingredient we recommend.

Huperzine A

The final ingredient here.

Huperzine A has been found to enhance cognitive capabilities and help you concentrate in the gym.

A better end than the previous few ingredients but still, we don’t have the dosage so can’t see how good it can be.

The proprietary blend means we cannot see if some of the ingredients are dosed too high. We don’t want there to be a lot of Rauwolfia Vomitoria for a start.

This is why we don’t like to see these blends.

At least they gave us the Caffeine content, although this is on the high side for us.

Beta-alanine is often known to cause paresthesia. This tingling sensation is something to look out for. Although we did mention, this does pass.

There is enough about this product to like but it is what it does wrong that we can’t really get past.

It started so well, ticking off a lot of the better pre-workout ingredients. Also, the dosages of some of their better nutrients are great and right up there with the better products.

They just didn’t maintain this and as we went further down there were more ingredients that concerned us.

Rauwolfia Vomitoria being banned in Canada is never a good sign and the Caffeine content is a bit much all in one go.

Safety is a big thing for us at CLM, we would never suggest that anyone should take a risk with their health.

Thankfully there are proven and safe products on the market that do not put you at risk.
