Carbon Prep vs MusclePharm Assault Pre Workout
Here at CleanLeanMachine, we love to compare supplements. Our Carbon Prep vs MusclePharm Assault review is going to be a good one.
We see so many that we are constantly reviewing and comparing products to make sure we are on top of the latest information.
We feel it is our duty to you to clear through as many supplements as possible. This way you can understand why the market leaders are so good. And what you should stay away from.
The first thing to say here is you are dealing with two decent pre workouts and we think this will be a close one. It is important to look at the companies behind the products as well as what ingredients they have selected to use. Dosages will be important as a stack is only as effective as how much of the good stuff they contain.
With these two supplements getting more and more exposure. We thought it was time to find out how they fared against each other. And consider how the winner would compare against a top brand.
Like any pre workout, these two should deliver the following:
- Increased strength
- Better Muscle Pumps
- Enhanced Energy
- More stamina in the gym
Carbon Prep vs MusclePharm Assault: Who Makes These Supplements?
The company behind Carbon Prep is BioLayne. It wasn’t easy to navigate through their website to begin with, but we got there in the end.
Their site appears to be like an online CV for the company’s founder Dr. Layne Norton. Who appears to be quite an impressive dude! Not only has he successfully entered many powerlifting competitions he also has a PhD and a past that involves being a pro bodybuilder.
The supplements are a little like his way of giving back. Anyone with the sort of knowledge that he does must know a thing or two about what should go into a supplement.
Another string in his bow is the professional seminar touring so he is putting the years of studying and learning his craft into use. His powerlifting achievements is complimented by scientific publications.
This is the company behind MusclePharm Assault pre workout and they are known as one of the bigger supplement producing companies around.
They have a good reputation and have been around for some time. Longevity is quite an achievement in itself in this industry. They have a string of supplements which are tailored towards both the causal gym enthusiast and the more serious athletes as well.
MusclePharm refer to themselves as ‘The Athlete’s Company’ and their website is not just a vessel for selling their product. They also have a lot of useful information on it such as recipes.
They have a slick site, and their products all look impressive, but how much further can they take that?
Carbon Prep vs Muscle Pharm Assault Ingredients
This is where the fun begins, only one of these products can prevail so we should start with proprietary blends.
The good news is, Carbon Prep does not include any. So we know exactly what to expect when using their product. The dosages are all made clear.
Unfortunately, MusclePharm Assault starts on a downer here. They have some of the dosages on here but a lot of blends. This means a group of ingredients are bunched together and we only know the total dosage of the blend.
This can be dangerous for users as it means some ingredients might be really strong. On the flip side it can also mean they are weak and ineffective!
We are going to try and get as much information as we can.
Carbon Prep Pre Workout Ingredients
Ok so it’s a solid start here for Carbon Prep. Citrulline Malate is an amino acid and one that increases the blood flow in your body by turning this into L-Arginine in your kidneys. This encourages your body to start the huge increase in blood flow for the big muscle pumps. A great trait for any pre workout.
It’s also good to see the dosage has been thought through properly. The optimal amount of 6,000 mg has been included.
Creatine comes with such a good reputation it seems that everyone knows it benefits for your muscle recovery. That’s great for post workout protein shakes etc and recovery is fine to start whilst you are working out. It is also known to actually increase strength whilst you are in the gym so it is full of surprises.
There is a good dosage included at 3,000 mg. This should be effective enough for you to get the benefits.
Sounds like a dinosaur and it might as well be here because neither should be included in a pre workout. It does serve a purpose and if you are looking to get shredded then it is good for preventing water retention and is a natural diuretic.
The problem here is that Carbon Prep also contains Creatine. This pushes water into your muscles as part of the swelling. So a diuretic is the last thing you body needs.
Keep an eye on your water intake to ensure you are safe.
We can see why some people include these in their supplements. It can do positive things for your strength especially. But it can’t just rely on that for its inclusion. It must also be safe.
The problem with this ingredient is there are enough studies to show it causes side effects such as heartburn, dizziness, confusion, rashes and more.
MusclePharm Assault Pre Workout Ingredients
If the fact that this product contains proprietary blends is bad. Then this is on a par with that. Although there are differing opinions on it, we don’t like to see a pre workout include it
It has shown promise in the fact that it can help to increase the intensity of your workout but we have concerns over having it too often due to the side effects that can occur such as paresthesia. This can cause an itching and tingling sensation. Although this is a minor side effect, it can still put you off your workout.
A pretty potent caffeine that is often found in energy drinks to do just that – give you a boost. It will speed up your metabolism as well as give you a real power surge.
In its powdered form it is often used by athletes to enhance their athletic capabilities. However, we strongly advise against double scooping with this product because the caffeine content is pretty high.
Like we said this often found in supplements and for many good reasons. There is no point in going over old ground with this one. But what we will say is we can’t comment on how effective the Creatine in Muscle Pharm assault is as it is part of a proprietary blend.
An effective ingredient in any pre workout but it is included in a proprietary blend. This is unfortunate as it can increase your muscle power as well as your reflexes. But all of this could be irrelevant since it is part of a blend and its effectiveness is a mystery to us!
Carbon Prep vs MusclePharm Assault Side Effects
It is unusual to see quite so many potential ingredients form two supplements. We would argue that the potential side effects in Carbon Prep as less likely to occur since the dosges are not massively high.
Compared to MusclePharm where we have no idea how extreme the side effects could be as the ingredients are part of a blend.
Carbon Preps potential side effects are:
- Dehydration (Astragalus Membranaceus and Creatine combined)
- Heartburn (Alpha GPC)
- Insomnia (Alpha GPC)
- Headache (Alpha GPC)
- Confusion & More (Alpha GPC)
Muscle Pharm potential side effects are:
- Itching (Beta-Alanine)
- Jitters (High Caffeine)
- Insomnia (High Caffeine)
- Vomiting (High Caffeine)
- Increase Heart Rate & More (High Caffeine)

Carbon Prep vs MusclePharm Assault Conclusion
Winner: Carbon Prep
Despite the words of caution throughout, it’s not quite a case of the lesser of two evils, but we gave this to Carbon Prep because although there are some potential side effects, these can be considered minor. Carbon Prep also included some good pre workout ingredients as well.
The fact that MusclePharm Assault uses proprietary blends means it is difficult to argue a case for it, it could be pretty dangerous. And despite the fact they had some decent ingredients, they could have tiny dosages for all we know.
Neither of these pre workouts are perfect. We understand that it is difficult to achieve perfection, but if you are looking for a pre workout that is as close as you can get to it then we recommend 4 Gauge.
Unlike these two products, there are zero potential side effects with 4 Gauge and the ingredients are all carefully selected with many top pre workout ingredients and dosages.
