What does your BMI (Body Mass Index) result mean?
Below 18.5 – you’re in the underweight range
Between 18.5 and 24.9 – you’re in the healthy weight range
Between 25 and 29.9 – you’re in the overweight range
Between 30 and 39.9 – you’re in the obese range
This is a basic calculation and gives a general idea of most people’s overall body weight health. There are of course many exceptions this simple calculation doesn’t take into consideration – for example, if you’re an athlete (such as American Football or Rugby player) who carries a lot of muscle mass, your BMI will likely show as overweight.
If you’re concerned about your BMI, we recommend consulting a health professional.
You can also use our Total Daily Energy Expenditure Calculator to easily work out how many calories you should be eating per day to achieve your weight goals – whether that’s increasing or decreasing to a healthier weight range.
